Stephen Chukwomah


Stephen Chibuikem Chukwumah (1988, Ebenebe, Nigeria) went to the Iponri Estate High School in the Surulere area of Lagos state for his secondary education. During his time in high school he was very involved with a lot of school social activities and was trained as HIV/AIDS peer educator by the Lagos state government and National Union of Teachers, Lagos state chapter. Stephen Chuckwomah was offered admission to read mass-communication at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka Anambra state, but he proceeded to read English and Literature at the prestigious Ambrose Alli University of Ekpoma, Edo state, Nigeria. All through his years in the university, he was known as a bright outspoken young man, he advocated for the rights of students and was partially involved in school politics, he was also a class representative for his class till his graduation from the university.

At a young age, he started his international work with the Youth Coalition in Canada, went on to serve as an International Youth Advisor to the United Nations Population Fund Agency and also as an International Advisor for Rutgers Nisso (now: Rutgers WPF) in the Netherlands through their Youth Incentives program.
Stephen Chukwomah works as a steering committee member for the HIV Young Leaders Fund and also currently a youth activist for Advocates for Youth in Washington DC USA. He is the founder and Executive Director of Improved Youth Health Initiative, working on sexual health and rights for and with young people in Eastern Nigeria. He has a diploma from the RFSU International Training program on Sexual Health and International Human and sexual Rights in Stockholm Sweden and Cape Town South Africa sponsored by the Swedish government.

He speaks at international events and has spoken at the highly acclaimed University of Maryland, USA. Facilitates sessions and workshops at international and local trainings including facilitating a session at the International AIDS conference youth pre-conference. Stephen has also contributed to articles including writing some for international, regional and local organizations.

At the Antwerp conference, he participate din the panel discussion on health in the LGBT world.
