Claus Brandt


Claus BrandtClaus Brandt received his law degree in 1976 from the University of Hamburg (at that time Western Germany), with the authorization to work as a lawyer (with a focus on working and social law). In 1986, he became advisor to the parliament of Lower Saxony (one of the German states).
From 1980 to 2000, he worked at the Federal Ministry of Science and Research, where he mainly worked at international level, involved with the policies about the UNESCO, the OECD, the ILO and the European Union.
As the government moved to Berlin, Claus Brandt also moved to Berlin in 2000, where he took up work at the Berlin branch of the Ministery and became mainly responsible for higher and academic education.

Apart from his activities in the Gay Lawyers' Association and Gay Professionals in Germany, Claus Brandt has been active for a long time in the Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft ver.Di, the German union for public sector workers and other service providers. For ver.Di, he is active as a confidential advisor within the Ministry. As ver.Di is affiliated to the German Trade Union Federation DGB, Claus Brandt is also chair of the LGBT working party within DGB, and has represented DGB at ILGA conferences.
He also participates in a working party to improve the German General Equal Treatment Act (non-discrimination legislation).

At the Antwerp conference, Claus Brandt participated in the Panel discussion on the role of trade unions.
