Marion Oprel


Marion OprelMarion Oprel was raised in Delft, the Netherlands, and studied as interpreter at the University of Antwerp (1980 - 1984). She was trainee and later free-lance translator for the European Parliament (1984 – 1987) and free-lance interpreter for European Commission and Council (1985 – 1987).
As interpreter at the European parliament (1987 – 2010), she was responsible for simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from English, German, Danish and Swedish into Dutch in plenary, committee, delegation and various other meetings of the European Parliament.
From 1990 until 1992 she was also working as a university teacher at the University of Antwerp. She served as co-president and later president of Egalite, the association of LGBTI European Union employees from 1996 – 1998.

Apart from her language knowledge, Marion Oprel took a training as a Gestalt therapist in Breda (Netherlands) (2003 – 2008).
For the Eurogames in Antwerp (2007) she acted as co-organiser of the ceremonies and exhibition organiser.
For the Antwerp conference 2013, she acted as co-president of the bidding committee, and created a photo exhibition. At the conference, she participated in one of the couch sessions.
