Pierre Côté

Doctor Pierre Côté began his medical studies at the University Laval (Canada) to make then his residence in family medicine for the local community service centre (CLSC) mid-south of Montréal affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montreal. He had specifically chosen this CLSC as he was particularly interested to work with disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. He completed his training at the university hospital of Purpan in Toulouse (France) directed to the care of drug addicted persons infected by HIV.

He began to practice medicine by sharing his time between a private cabinet and the hospital. In the private hospital, his practice has always been to take care of marginalized populations: gay men, drug addicts, itinerant people, transsexuals and others. In 1999, he implemented with Dr Pierre Lauzon one of the first programs of treatment of opioid dependency: relay methadone.

In 2000, he set up the ambulatory unit HIV/drug addiction. He spoke at several conferences dealing with HIV and hepatitis C. Since the very start of the Symposiums on the clinical aspects of HIV, 19 years ago, he has been president. Pierre Côté also took part in the luanch of the HIV Days in Québec in 2001, which later developed into the French-speaking international conferences on AIDS, in which he acts as vice-president.
He was also board member and medical director of the Fuirst OutGames in Montréal, 2006.

Pierre Côté spoke at the Antwerp conference in a plenary session about research and practice on HIV and hepatitis.
