Mohammed Rofiqul Islam


Mohammed Rofiqul Islam (Bangladesh) has achieved his diploma in fine arts in 1992. He has served as an art teacher for the Noborag Sanith Academy.
He been working for 16 years within LGBT groups on sexuality, gender, advocacy, counseling, research and training at the Bandhu Social Welfare Society (BSWS). This is a Bangladesh based NGO working on issues such as awareness raising, human rights, sexual health and counseling for men having sex with men (MSM) and transgenders/hijras. As a trainer and couselor, he works with the Bangladeshi government on MSM and transgender issues. As a researcher, Mohammed Rofiqul Islam has helped in the survey on young men with regard to their sexual and reproductive health, organised by the Catalyst Consortium and the Naz Foundation International in 2003. He also collected data on hijras as part of a mapping exercise on HIV/AIDS legislation and human rights.

Mohammed Rofiqual Islam published several items, such as a psychological and psychosexual counseling module (for MSM and transgenders), a booklet for male sex workers, tranasgender sex workers and their clients about prevention of HIV and AIDS, and helped in the movie Amra Ki Etoi Bhinno/Are We So Different.

Mohammed Rofiqul Islam participated in the migration and safety panel at the Antwerp conference.
