Surat Rathgeber Knan


Surat KnanSurat Rathgeber Knan is project manager of Rainbow Jews: Celebrating LGBT Jewish History and Heritage. This pioneering project is the first of its kind in the UK, and is hosted by Liberal Judaism and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Surat Knan has been working for the Liberal Jewish movement as a social action coordinator, and has represented the liberal Jewish faith at numerous international conferences, campaigning for faith-related issues such as equal marriage in places of worship.
Surat Knan is a member the Steering Committee at the Curring Edge Consortium (UK), and has co-ordinated high-profile events including the Faith, Homophobia + Transphobia and Human Rights Biannual Conference.
Having achieved an MA degree in psychology (gender studies), journalism and theatre, Surat Knan has worked as educator and project co-ordinator with numerous international organisations, including the Sydney Western University.
Coming from a hybrid background and having lived and traveled around the globe as performing and circus artist, Surat is also a dedicated gender-queer activist. The Jewish drag king troupe "The Schmooze Brothers" was one of his co-creations.
