Virginia Magwaza Setshedi


Virginia Magwaza SetshediVirgina Magwaza Setshedi (Soweto, Johannesburg, 1970) is a human right activist who has been involved in different social justice stuggles locally and internationally. She has been involved in issues around socio-economic rights, environmental justice and women's rights. Currently, she is involved and working on trade union rights and LGBT rights in South Africa and beyond
Virginia Magwaza Setshedi works as a project coordinator within Public Services International (PSI) and continues to be action oriented and striving for a better world with peace and justice for all. Her PSI work includes capacity building and campaign development with the public sector union's representatives, and stretches over five countries in Southern Africa.
Virginia Magwaza Setshedi is also well known around South Africa for her work in fighting homophobia and hate crimes. She is leading a campaign against hate crimes directed towards LGBT people and also has been at the forefront of the campaign against the anti-homosexuality bill proposed in Uganda.

At the Antwerp conference, Virginia Magwaza Setshedi participated in the trade union panel discussion.
