Željko Blaće


Željko BlaćeŽeljko Blaće (1976 Čapljina, Bosnia & Herzegovina) is living and working in Zagreb, Croatia (or roaming around the region). He went to grammar school in Čapljina, practiced sports and did live radio programs at local radio station. As of 1995 he moved to Zagreb to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, co-initiated/coordinated internet activities as first sys-admin there.

Željko Blaće worked at Multimedia Institute (co-founder, 1999/2000), as coordinator of international projects and public programs in net.culture club MaMa (2001-2004, executive board member for 3 years). As a professional in media culture and digital arts he contributed to cultural programs of the Croatian Radio and TV, wrote for ICT magazines as well as the cultural newspaper Zarez. He also published in international cultural magazines and croatian web portals.
He exhibited as visual/media artist and performed as VJ with electro-acoustic-glitch duo from Zagreb - Jeanne Fremaux. and participated as speaker/presenter at international media art events including: Ars Electronica Festival, Net Congestion, Next 5 Minutes 4, Transmediale, Ping In Progress, Money Nations II, ncc48, NEURO.

Željko Blaće organized several large scale international events in Croatia and was an art manager in residence at TheTHING NYC (oldest continously running art/culture web server) in November 2002.
He worked in organizing team of transmediale festival in Berlin 2004, made presentations in several academic programs and curated and produced exhibitions.

His work can be summarized as working in and between fields of contemporary culture, digital technology and community sport; cross-pollinating queer, media and social practices, taking different roles, including the role of activist, of artist, of athlete, of academic researcher, reporter and consultant.

He instigated and led the qSPORT society for sporting recreation of LGBTQ athletes and enthusiasts (005 - 2012) and networks for the qSPORT community internationally.
